Gok Wan is firing up his wok to showcase his other great passion in life, Chinese cooking, for new Channel 4 series Gok Cooks Chinese.
Growing up with a Chinese restaurateur and chef for a father, Gok loves nothing more than home cooked Chinese food and over the years has perfected many dishes of his own.
Now he will be joined by his beloved Dad John, affectionately known as Papa Wan by his son, for a brand new cookery series for Channel 4 exploring Chinese home cooking, healthy and quick meals devised by Gok himself, proving that he is master of the cleaver as well as the cleavage.
Brits love a good Chinese, but Gok is going to show that true Chinese cookery is faster, healthier, and more delicious than anything you can get delivered to your front door. From the ultimate kitchen tool – the wok – through to a handful of basic, simple ingredients, Gok will guide viewers through the easy essentials to mouth-watering food.
The 6×30 series was ordered by Channel 4 Features Commissioning Editor Katie Boyd and will be produced by Optomen Television. It will be executive produced by Pat Llewellyn and Sue Murphy, who recently joined Optomen as Creative Director. The programme is set to air on Channel 4 in May.
Katie Boyd said: “Gok’s a whizz with a wok – and his delectable yet simple Chinese recipes are made to make your mouth water.”
Pat Llewellyn, Optomen’s Managing Director, said: “Gok’s a brilliant home cook and his recipes are a revelation, healthy, fast and packed with flavour. Gok’s Chinese way of cooking feels incredibly modern – fresh ingredients cooked so quickly it makes 30 minute meals look like slow motion. Everyone loves eating Chinese food, but not many of us dare cook it at home – I’m sure Gok is going to change that.”
