Kenton Electronics is proud to announce availability of Modular Solo, a high- specification MIDI-to-CV convertor, designed specifically for use in the ‘small’ Eurorack (A100) modular synth system format (as popularised by Doepfer Musikelektronik).
The 3U-/128mm-high, 10HP-/50mm-wide Modular Solo ships complete with a ribbon cable ready to fit into any Eurorack (A100) modular system — simply plug one end into the free slot on the Modular Solo itself and the other into the backplane of the modular case to supply the required power (+12V supply 85mA max/-12V supply 3mA). Control Voltage (CV) and Gate signals can be sent via the ribbon cable to the system bus (selected using jumpers).
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) IN and OUT are on standard (5/180°) DIN sockets; alternatively, the SYNC 24 (or DIN SYNC) interfacing standard (as originally introduced by Roland Corporation on the likes of its TR-808 and TR-606 drum machines) is available from the MIDI OUT socket (by selecting parameter 91 from the front panel editing system).
Analogue output CV (V/oct or Hz/V or 1.2V/oct) and GATE (or S-Trig — with or without pull- ups) are on 3.5mm mono jacks. As supplied (and stored on non-volatile EEPROM), there are built-in presets for the most common classic, vintage synths — including Hz/V varieties (such as Korg’s collectable MS-20), and, if no suitable preset is available, manual configuration is also possible.
Additionally, two digital aux outputs (CLOCK 1 and CLOCK 2) can be used as clock connections or to control stop/start inputs (0v or 5v/10v); four continuously variable aux outputs (AUX 1, AUX 2, AUX 3, and AUX 4) can control effects such as filter cutoff using MIDI controllers (by connecting to any available external control voltage input on a monosynth).
Moreover, Modular Solo is much more than a just a MIDI-to-CV convertor as it incorporates a built-in LFO (with variable rate/speed and waveshapes, including Triangle, Sawtooth up, Sawtooth down, PulseWidth 10%, PulseWidth 20%, PulseWidth 30%, PulseWidth 40%, Square, and Sample & Hold), plus portamento, and many other functions.
