Chris Burch, 26 from Wales, suffered a stroke during an attempted back flip a few years ago which caused him to break his neck. Prior to his injury, he was a keen rugby player with a passion for sport, who had proposed to his then-girlfriend and was working in a bank. But following his recovery, he quit his day job, put down the pints at the weekend with his friends, began training as a hairdresser and broke off his engagement for a man.
“Suddenly, I hated everything about my old life. I didn’t get on with my friends, I hated sport and found my job boring.”
He then focussed on re-crafting his apperance with constant gym visits and a new wardrobe:
“I started taking more pride in my appearance, bleached my hair and started working out. I went from a 19st skinhead to a 11st preened man.”
He now lives above the salon he works at with his boyfriend Jack Powell, 19 and is much more happier with his new lifestyle:
“People I used to know barely recognised me and with my new look and I became even more confident. I think I’m happier than ever, so I don’t regret the accident.”
