Skyfall scores best Bond debut ever at the US box office

After opening with a huge $87.8m, Skyfall has scored the best Bond debut ever at the US box office. On top of this the opening IMAX screening bumped the figure up to $90m after collected a whopping $2.2m.

This figure managed to smash the previous 007, Quantum Of Solace as it opened with a very healthy $67.5m. Skyfall  now sits on over a worldwide total of $500m, meaning it’s not an impossible feat to best the current Bond box-office champ, with Casino Royale currently topping the podium with $599m.

No doubt assisted by the wave of Bond 50 nostalgia, and an extrememly impressive Olympic cameo, the Bond franchise is growing in popularity, and the figures sure do support this.

Director Sam Mendes is yet to confirm his involvement with the next Bond movie, however by looking at those monetary numbers it would be extrememly suprising if he wasn’t to take Bond number 24 under his wing.

Long-term Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will be leaving the franchise after a five-film residency.[featuredvideo]
