Known as a ‘Mechaphile” he has declared his love for a 1974 VW Beetle named ‘’Vanilla’’ and in the eye-opening Channel 5 documentary, ‘Strange Love’ from 2008 he declared, “I’m a romantic,I write poetry about cars, I sing to them and talk to them just like a girlfriend. I know what’s in my heart and I have no desire to change.” Within the documentary he also talks about how his appreciation for the curvaceous aspects of the body of a car and has sudden urges to make love to one on a daily basis, no matter how strange you think you might be…. Smith is certainly stranger.
He declares that he’s not sick, isn’t not out to hurt anybody and has never been attracted to men or women, his lust began at the age of 13 when witnessing the Corvette Stingray, ‘’the car was pure sex and just an incredible machine. I wanted it.’’ During his life he claims that he has had many ‘lovers’ including a 1973 Opal G named Cinnamon, a 1993 Ford Ranger Splash named Ginger, and the helicopter from the famous 80’s TV show ‘Airwolf’.
