Last year 60,000 music fans cast their vote and this year looks set to cause even more of a frenzy as music fans scramble to www.nme.com/awards/vote to have their say on who should be walking away with an iconic middle finger at the NME Awards ceremony in February.
With Muse, Oasis, The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire and The Killers all winners in recent years, the big question now is who’s set to steal the show in 2012 – with everyone from established heroes Kasabian, Florence and The Machine and Noel Gallagher to relative newcomers like Bombay Bicycle Club, The Vaccines and The Horrors already hotly tipped to be fighting it out. But as previous years have shown – there’s no predicting what will happen on the night!
Leading up to the event, the NME Awards Tour is back for 2012 and ready to showcase the year’s most exciting music talent throughout February. Renowned for giving the freshest new acts their first taste of national notoriety past alumni have included Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Florence & The Machine, Crystal Castles and The Vaccines. 2012’s line-up featuring Two Door Cinema Club, Metronomy, Tribes and Azealia Banks (the latter recently names The Coolest Person in the World in the NME Cool List 2011!) is already setting the agenda for an explosive forthcoming year of music.
Running throughout February, the NME Awards Tour kicks off in Glasgow (8th) and visits 12 venues across the UK, ending with a show-stopping finale in London (25th).
Meanwhile, the NME Awards Shows explode onto the UK live music scene for 2012 with a line-up so packed full of talent that the Shows have burst out of their traditional home in the Capital and will visit five cities around the UK. This year influential Parisian electro duo Justice will lead a series of shows that will bring the might of The NME Awards Shows to the whole of the UK. Kicking off on 8th February and running throughout the month, the Shows will bring some of the most acclaimed acts to the Capital.
